š¾ A Legend Begins: Meet Link of the Kerr Twins š¾
In early October, we finally got our first good look at the newest additions to the Groveāand letās just say, they did not disappoint.
Sue and Dave Kerr had once again surprised us. After producing just one joey with us before (our darling Wendy), they went and upped the ante by delivering not one, but two joeys this time. Twins! That alone was enough to make us raise our eyebrows, but what really stunned us was the little boy tucked snugly at Sueās side.
Where Wendy had been a standard gray, this little fellow was a gleaming white fluffballāsolid white from tip to toe, save for a subtle gray diamond-shaped patch on his forehead. It looked almost like the iconic Triforce symbol, and once we saw it, there was no going back.
He was Link, of course. Our brave little Hylian hero in sugar glider form.
⨠Mama's Spicy Legacy
Sue remains as spicy and dramatic as everānot outright aggressive, but definitely not the type to throw a welcome party for your fingers if you're checking on her babies. Sheās a protector, through and through. But hey, Wendy had the same fiery flair and she mellowed out beautifully in time.
So weāre hopeful that Link, too, will grow up with that same balance of boldness and bondability.
š¼āØ And Then Came Aryllā¦
We were still riding the high of Linkās surprise appearance when his tiny sibling began to peek out from the pouch as well. This time, we were greeted by the softer tones of a beautiful standard gray girl ā and it stopped us in our tracks.
Aryll surprised us in a few ways. Not only were she and her brother the first twins ever produced by Sue and Dave, but she was also only the second joey they'd given us since joining the Grove ā the first being Wendy, a classic and understated standard gray. Given Daveās impressive lineage and history of bold color expression before he came to us, we half expected his next joeys to arrive with some visual flair. But Aryll appeared as a soft gray cloud: elegant, calm, and refreshingly simple in her beauty. A stark contrast to her brother Linkās dramatic arrival, and a perfect complement.
Thatās not to say she wasnāt special. The fact that sheās a second standard gray joey from this pair and the first time mama Sue has had twins makes Aryll stand out all on her own. And true to her Wind Waker namesake, sheās sweet and unassuming but definitely knows how to hold her own. Her mama may be crabby and a bit spicy, but Aryll seems to have inherited a more mellow approach to life ā at least so far. Weāll see how that holds once she hits her teenage glider phase. š
Together, Link and Aryll are a perfect pair of surprises ā a reminder that even with the best lineage knowledge, glider breeding is full of magic, mystery, and the occasional twist we never saw coming.
šāØ But the magic didnāt stop thereā¦
Just a week after the Kerr twins made their debut, another little sparkle emerged from the shadows ā the very first joey born to the Starling pair. From the moment we spotted the tiny bump beneath mama Dottieās belly, we held our breath. With two mosaic parents and no prior joeys to compare, this one was destined to be a wild card.
We didnāt know it yet, but this little joey would bring a light all her own ā and her name would be Twinkle. š
Stay tuned, friends. This story is just getting brighter. š«
