🔖 Making Our Mark: Custom Cage Tags for Our Glider Families
January 2026 Update from the Grove
We’ve always believed that every glider deserves to feel special, and that includes the environment they live in. Each sugar glider family at Mountain Grove Gliders has their own little world: their own vibe, aesthetic, and identity. As our Grove grew, we dreamed of giving each cage a personalized name tag — something both whimsical and functional, that would celebrate each group's uniqueness while also being useful during feeding, cleaning, and socializing.
🛍️ The Etsy Temptation...
We started by browsing Etsy to see what was available. There were plenty of cute and well-crafted options, but none of them gave us the flexibility we wanted. We needed a way to fully customize not only the colors and styles, but also the names and logos for each family group — Aetherwood, Starling, Kerr, Puddingtail, Mallow, and more to come!
🔧 The 3D Printing Decision
So, we did what any glider-loving, project-driven household would do: we bought a 3D printer. We’ve been experimenting with tag designs using different fonts, colors, and layering styles — and even started printing practical items like mini “dining rooms” to hold food bowls for cages without shelves.
The goal? To eventually send our adopted gliders home with a little keepsake — a custom tag bearing their name and family of origin. A small but heartfelt reminder of their roots at the Grove.
🧪 Testing in the Real World
Some of the experimental cage items are already in use across the Grove. We’re observing how they hold up to cleaning, glider activity, and general wear and tear. So far, we’re thrilled! It’s been a fun learning curve with plenty of tweaking (and a few failed prints), but the joy of seeing these colorful, meaningful pieces in action has made it well worth it.
